For their summer topic Swallows have been learning about the 32 countries that have taken part in the World Cup. As a class we have studied Brazil and found out about the population, geography, climate, school and food. We have listened and danced to Brazillian samba music and learnt some Portugeuse words.
Each Swallow chose a country out of a bag and they have been working on projects at home to bring in and share. They have been amazing and so different. We have sampled Belgian chocolate, Swiss chocolate, Mexican tortillas and listened to Mexican music. We have had wonderful models, scrapbooks, posters, folders, flags and booklets. They have all been different and we have all learnt so much about the world cup countries.
The facts that the children have found most interesting is the age and time that children go to school in many countries. In most of the countries we have looked at children do not start school until six years of age and many of them start at 7.00 in the morning and finish at 1.00 in the afternoon. This was very popular with the class!
We would like to say a big thank you to all the families for supporting their children with their projects. We hope you enjoyed it as we have really enjoyed sharing them. They have shown them in whole school assembly and were very proud of them.
