Our Lenten charity this year was Bamenda, and we chose to raise money by holding a sponsored spell in each class. The Diocese of Portsmouth is twinned with the Catholic Diocese of Bamenda in Cameroon, West Africa, and money raised is spent supporting projects in Bamenda in collaboration with the local communities in areas of faith, health, education and social welfare. The average educational fees for one child is £20 and they also need uniform and materials. With our fundraising efforts, so many more children may have access to education who currently don’t.
Our sponsored spell took place on Monday 3rd April and was a huge success. Ducklings also joined in by having a sponsored name write. We chose a sponsored spell as improving our spelling is part of our school improvement plan for this year.
Thank you to everyone for their efforts to raise money for Bamenda – in total we raised £1,000. Thank you to the children for learning their spellings and to their friends and family who sponsored them. The money raised will be presented at the annual schools’ Mass at the cathedral in June.
