Please remember to join us for a picnic lunch on Friday 1st June as children and staff spend the day celebrating the diamond jubilee. The “street party” picnic is planned to run from 12 noon until 1pm, weather permitting. Children who have a hot school meal will be able to bring their meal out to join in the celebrations. Bring a blanket, pack a hamper [nut free please] and let’s celebrate together!
The event is obviously reliant on dry weather as we do not have enough room in school to accommodate everyone. Should it be inclement, we will ParentMail by 10 am on the day.
As each class will be looking at a different feature of British social history during her majesty’s reign, you may receive a letter from your child’s class teacher requesting particular artefacts.
Finally, we thought it would be fun (and not too much extra effort) for us all to turn up in our red, white and blue.
An invitation to our parents from our Community Cohesion Team:
The children of St Joseph’s Primary School are going to be celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee on Friday 1 June, with a full day of exciting thematic learning on the changes we have seen over the past 60 years. It will be called our ‘Dazzling Diamond Day’ and each class will explore a different aspect of life looking at changes over the past 60 years. Classes will be studying a range of aspects from music and fashion to transport and toys. In the afternoon they will set up displays and visit each class to share their research and work.
If you have any artefacts or information that you would be happy to loan to us, we would be delighted and hope to be able to set up a small Diamond Jubilee Museum for the occasion. If you are able to help on the day or have contact with someone who would be able to talk to the children about their memories of the coronation or changes since, then please let us know.
We would like to invite you to join us for a family picnic lunch on the school field (weather permitting) on the day. Bring a rug for the ground, pack your favourite treats and come and share in the atmosphere of the celebrations.
