Advent: From Darkness into Light
The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light:
they who live in the land under the shadow of death, have a light shine upon them.
For unto us a son is given: and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counseller,
The mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace… and all the people shall know.
Isaiah 9: 1- 7

Throughout the month of November we remember those who have died, the “Holy Souls” and who will one day go and live with God the Father. We prayer for them.
We also take time to learn from the lives of the saints- those we know are now with God because of the way they lived while on earth.

A reading from the Gospel of St John
She turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not know that it was Jesus. Jesus said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you looking for?" Supposing him to be the gardener, she said to him, "Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away."
Jesus said to her, "Mary!" She turned and said to him in Hebrew, "Rabbouni!" (which means Teacher). Jesus said to her, "Do not hold on ...

November a month of Saints and Remembrance
In this reading we listen to St Paul as he writes to the Christians who lived in a town called Colossae. He called these friends of his “saints”, because like us they had been asked to follow Christ, and to be God’s friends. This is what he said.
I pray that you will grow in wisdom and understanding, so that you will learn to know what God wants you to do.
If you do this, ...

In communities among peoples;
Peace above all for those nations
Where people fight and die every day.
Obtain that every ...

1914 is the year World War 1 began. A hundred years have passed since 1914, but we still remember that war and the millions of people who lost their lives. We must take time out of our busy lives to pray and bring to mind those people who fought and suffered for their country.
In Flanders Fields by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae

Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly...

Journeying in the Faith: Lent – a time for reflectionFebruary 12th 2014
Lent- a time for reflection
Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent. Lent is a special time of preparation for the joys of Easter. It is a time of invitation to come to know Jesus more closely. Lent lasts for forty days and reminds us of the forty days Jesus spent alone fasting and praying in the desert preparing for his public ministry.
